Garu Tempane

Welcome to the musical and hospitable people of the Garu Tempane District.

The district with the largest number of communities, the Garu Tempane District has, since the launch of the National CLTS Scale up programme in 2012, been the epitome of hope for not only the Upper East Region but the entire country. Garu Tempane has always been progressive in turning communities ODF and remains the district with the largest number of ODF communities in the Upper east Region. Out of the 362 communities, 128 had officially been declared ODF as at July 2018, representing 35% achievement.

Garu Tempane has been blessed with keen support from UNICEF, World Bank, SPRING and World Vision International in their fight against open defecation and is determined to declare districtwide ODF by December 2020.

Like most other districts, Garu Tempane is implementing the CLTS approach, sanitation marketing, and law enforcement to fight open defecation and promote the use of household latrines.

You may contact the District Environmental Health Officer, Maxwell Kanwel on 0200600892 for more information on the district’s ODF status.
